ADULTS PLAYING

Science proof about the importance of adults playing

  1. Dr Gabor Mate (Canadian physician & researcher)

“When you look at evolution, kids didn’t learn sitting in classrooms. They learnt by being out in nature with the adults. They learnt through experience and through play. Play is essential for healthy brain function and development. The human brain develops through an ongoing process that begins before birth and continues throughout adulthood.

The children who play, being naturally curious, learn anything easily. They want to. That’s their nature. Adults are the same. When you encourage children and adults to immerse themselves in healthy relationships, lots of play, lots of interactions, lots of spontaneity, lots of creativity, everyone learns and develops skills really well.

And science evidences that the stand out environment, that supersedes all others, is play!”

2. Dr Karyn Purvis.

“Scientists have recently determined that it takes approximately 400 repetitions to create a new synapse in the brain – unless it is done with play, in which case, it takes between 10 -20 repetitions.”

3. National Library of Medicine & The National Institute for Play

The most important factor is the interaction of the genes with the environment. It’s the environmental experiences that shape the brain, not genes. These experiences affect the genes, from in utero through adulthood. This then affects your memory, focus, perspective, beliefs, thoughts, feelings, choices and outcomes. Play improves well-being and is critical for children as well as adults.

The benefits of play:

It’s free, fun, and a great way to spend time with those you love.

Take a peaceful moment to ask yourself:

What sort of enjoyable-for-me playtime environments would optimise my health, happiness, well-being, goals & life?

When the answer comes, have fun, go play!

With love
